In their endeavor to ascertain the presence of creosote within Florida, 3Tm Consulting carried out numerous field campaigns in order to identify characterization and forensic identification of the widespread releases of the creosote chemicals, within a large community in the Florida Everglades. Samples were taken in a range of mediums, and included surface soil, subsurface soil, sediment, airborne dust, indoor dust, surface water as well as groundwater. During these test phases, creosote contamination was detected to depths of up to 80 feet below the surface, this test was performed making use of electromagnetic imagery techniques as well as traditional borehole drilling and soil sampling. After findings were analyzed, it was ascertained that the route of contamination was as direct cause of a local industrial operation that operated decades before.

While studies contacted within animals that had high-levels of creosote exposure displayed far greater birth defects, while the chemical components present in creosote, namely PAHs, cresol, phenols of the coal tar creosote are believed to be store in the body fat and is ultimately stored in the breast milk of nursing mothers.
